2025 Speaker Schedule
Updated May 29, 2025
WAS HELD ON NOVEMBER 9, 2024
Please remember in your prayers Mr. Fred Piper. Fred is a 94 year old WWII Veteran. He flew 36 missions as a ball gunner for B-17’s of the Army 8th Air Force. He was to have been our speaker. Fred was at our luncheon, and as a result, he was on an Honor Flight in September. He still talks about both. I got worried when I called him to inform him of our cancellation. His voice mailbox was full. Finally he called me yesterday afternoon. He had been hospitalized for 7 days with viral pneumonia, not Corona virus. It “knocked me on my butt.” Fred is home now in quarantine to be sure he did not pick up anything else while hospitalized. He said he is weak, but I have to say he sounded like his usual self. He feels badly that he won’t give his talk this month, but he definitely wants to re-schedule when things get back to normal. I am not sure when we will be able to hold our next meeting, but I will work with Tim to get Fred at the podium. Best regards and stay well. Jim Cates, President, Prescott SAR

Saturday, January 13th -
Saturday, February 8th - Ron Anderson - Ron Anderson is a 40 year veteran of the professional medical industry, a 30 year medical historian, a published author on the subject, and a Certified Emergency Medic.
The medical practices that were employed during the frontier period in old Arizona were both fascinating and terrifying! The meat grinder of the Civil War had brought about a number of medical advances, which has traditionally been one of the few good things that wars generate, but many of the treatments for wounds and illnesses were still quite antiquated.
This presentation shows audiences how the doctors of the 1880's handled gunshot wounds, arrow wounds, town sanitation and the health and welfare of the local "ladies of the evening." If nothing else, it will make you very glad that you are getting the medical care of 2025 and you will realize that the phrase "the good old days" does not apply to medicine.
Saturday, March 8th - Chip Shay - Topic: Lewis & Clark
Saturday, April 12th - Stuart Rosebrook, CEO of Sharlot Hall. He will discuss the woman Sharlot Hall and the museum.
Saturday, May 10th - Ellyn Peterson of Dewey, AZ. Eighteen year old Ellyn’s story is intriguing. She has a long storied history of Scouting. On May 24th she will become an Eagle Scout. Hal Reniger, Prescott Chapter & AZ Society Eagle Scout Coordinator will attend the Court of Honor and present Ellyn with an Eagle Scout Commendation Certificate and an SAR Eagle Scut patch. Ellyn’s family has long been involved in scouting and mentoring young scouts progressing through the ranks. The Peterson family also has a long history of ranching and farming in Arizona. Ellyn recently returned from Washington D.C. where she attended a National 4H Convention. Her involvement with 4H is equal to that of Scouting. Ellyn will discuss youth oriented programs and their benefits of such to the up and coming leaders in our community.
Saturday June 14th - Prescott City Mayor Phil Goode, who is also a Prescott Chapter member. Topic: "Why we pronounce it Preskitt, not Prescott. The city's founding and connection to the Revolutionary War."
